Understanding Cancel For Any Reason (CFAR) Travel Insurance: Flexibility for Your Peace of Mind

Planning a trip is always exciting, but life can be unpredictable, and sometimes your travel plans need to change. This is where Cancel For Any Reason (CFAR) Travel Insurance comes in, a flexible option that adds extra protection to your travel plans.

What is CFAR Travel Insurance?

As the name suggests, this coverage allows you to cancel your trip for any reason, not just those outlined in your travel insurance policy.

This benefit is only available to U.S. Citizens and U.S. Residents, and it offers partial reimbursement (up to 75%) of your prepaid, non-refundable trip costs if you choose to cancel your trip for a reason not covered by the standard policy. It’s important to note that to qualify for CFAR coverage, you must purchase it within a specific time frame, typically within 7–21 days of your initial trip deposit, depending on the plan.

How Does CFAR Work?

The way CFAR works is simple but comes with a few stipulations:

  1. Purchase Window: To be eligible for CFAR, you need to add this benefit soon after making your first trip deposit. This window is often within 7–21 days, depending on the plan.
  2. Full Trip Coverage: You must insure the entire non-refundable cost of your trip to qualify for CFAR.
  3. Timing of Cancellation: If you decide to use CFAR, you must cancel your trip in its entirety at least 48 hours before your scheduled departure date.
  4. Reimbursement Percentage: CFAR generally covers 75% of your trip costs—meaning you will be reimbursed for 75% of your non-refundable expenses if you cancel for a reason not listed in your standard plan. Check the plan you purchased for the amount covered.

Trawick International CFAR Plans

CFAR is available on many of Trawick International's travel insurance plans.

Safe Travels AnyReason: Our newest trip cancellation plan includes CFAR, meaning you do not have to add it as an optional upgrade. This plan must be purchased within seven (7) days of your initial trip deposit, and covers 75% of your non-refundable trip costs if you cancel for a reason not listed in the plan. AnyReason also offers comprehensive protection like 100% reimbursement up to a certain dollar amount for trip cancellation and interruption due to listed reasons, emergency medical coverage, and COVID coverage.

Other plans, such as Safe Travels Armor, Safe Travels First Class, Safe Travels Journey, and Safe Travels Voyager offer CFAR as an optional upgrade.

Why Add CFAR to Your Travel Insurance?

While travel insurance provides coverage for certain unforeseen events like medical emergencies or trip interruptions, CFAR takes it a step further by covering any reason for cancellation. Whether it's a change in your schedule, second thoughts about your destination, or simply a personal decision, CFAR provides flexibility and peace of mind. This means you won’t have to lose all your investment in case you have to cancel your trip or simply decide not to take it.

Things to Keep in Mind

  • CFAR is not available to residents of New York due to state regulations.
  • To take full advantage of CFAR, make sure you review your plan details carefully, as coverage limits and availability may vary by state.

If you're looking for maximum flexibility when planning your next trip, consider adding Cancel For Any Reason coverage to your Trawick International plan. With CFAR, you're not tied to rigid cancellation policies- giving you the freedom to make changes as needed and recover some of your trip investment.
